Dramatic Home Remodel

Berkeley, California

Ralph Hill was chosen to implement an innovative and dramatic design of this architect-owned home in Berkeley, CA.

Here, a previously dark and closed-in entrance was transformed into a passageway bathed in natural light from the three large skylights. We enclosed the original balcony, removed several walls and repositioned doorways to achieve this open, bright and welcoming entry. The offset tile pattern we installed throughout the main floor adds lots of vibrancy to the décor.

This living room was brought to life by removing the front window in favor of larger French doors leading to a mini balcony with a railing made from salvaged redwood and topped with lovely flower boxes. The old unusable brick fireplace was replaced with a high efficiency fireplace which was enhanced with natural stone tiles as a surround. To top it all off we leveled the floor and installed the new warm tile.

We reconfigured the living room, opening up the flow of traffic by removing two sets of aluminum sliders (notice the openings on the right) and removing a wall.

A new tile floor and new light fixtures were installed to create what is now a casual yet elegant space for dining.

We completely gutted this kitchen, reconfigured the layout and changed doors and windows. New tile floors, cherry cabinets, granite counters, stainless steel appliances, and recessed lighting combined with bold color combinations made the kitchen both warm and modern.
