Design & Build Kitchen & Bath Renovation

Berkeley, California

Ralph Hill was selected to turn the outdated and dysfunctional kitchen and bathroom of an otherwise wonderful house into a stylish and comfortable space with more connection to the outdoors. We worked with the owners and their interior decorator to reconfigure the floor plan, create a new kitchen that was accessible to the backyard, and remodeled a bathroom to boot!

The original kitchen flowed poorly with the rest of the house, separated from the yard – and light – by a bathroom and a storage area. Additionally, the washer/dryer and water heater were all located smack in the middle of the kitchen! Our client’s goal was to reconfigure the area so the laundry, bathroom and utility areas would be separate and distinct while connecting the kitchen and a breakfast nook with the beautiful backyard.

We created a breakfast nook that was surrounded on two sides by large banks of windows bringing light, color, and nature into the kitchen. If you look closely you can see the hummingbird feeder hanging outside the window.

Here you can see the connection between the back yard, the breakfast nook and the kitchen. Max, the Old English sheepdog, just couldn’t resist the photo op.

We installed a large conventional oven below with a microwave/convection oven above integrated into the cabinets. As part of the redesign of the house flow, we built these corner shelves that serve to display interesting knickknacks as well as the kitchen phone center.

In this view of the double bowl sink you can see the border tiles on the counter edge. These were hand-painted to pick up the flowering vines in the wallpaper.
